2 suspected drug dealers face charges of killing customers with fentanyl-laced heroin

A man from Trenton was charged and another from Pemberton Township was indicted on charges that they sold fentanyl-laced heroin that killed two people in Burlington County.

Daquan Marshall, 28, of the Kingsbury Towers in Trenton, was charged with one count of strict liability for a drug-induced death, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said Thursday.

Marshall allegedly sold heroin to a 22-year-old woman in Burlington Township. On Oct. 30, 2018, officers responding to a call found the woman in a bedroom. The woman, from nearby Springfield, was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, where she died on Nov. 4.

The county medical examiner later determined she died from fentanyl toxicity. Investigators later trace the drugs back to Marshall, Coffina said in a news statement.

Officers arrested Marshall on Wednesday at the Kingsbury complex. He had a first appearance Thursday and his case will be presented to a county grand jury, which could indict him.

The first-degree charge is called strict liability for a drug-induced death. It comes with a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.

In a separate case, a grand jury in Mount Holly indicted a man for selling fentanyl-laced heroin to a man who fatally overdosed in a Wawa.

Bryant Taylor, 39, faces one count of strict liability homicide, and six more counts of third-degree drug possession and distribution.

Coffina said in June 2017, Pemberton Township officers were called to the Wawa on Arney’s Mount Road for a man unresponsive on the bathroom floor. They found a 26-year-old man, who was taken to an area hospital and died two days later.

Investigators later determined Taylor sold the drugs to the man.
