70000 American drug overdose deaths a year

WASHINGTON, DC: Last year, Democrats said there was no emergency on our border. As though 70,000 Americans killed by opioids cartels smuggle across our southern border do not constitute a National Emergency. Every year, fifty thousand Americans are dead from heroin. Twenty thousand from fentanyl. The vast amount of it coming into the U.S. over our unprotected Southern Border.

Democrats like to say that 80% of the drugs entering the US are confiscated at the ports of entry. Which is a lame point.  Because, if that is so, 14,000 American deaths are from drugs crossing the unsecured portions of the border.

Nonetheless, another moot point for the Dems.

Enough drugs are entering to kill 70,000 Americans a year

Does anyone know how much really cross the border? All we know is that its more than what is confiscated. Which is a lot. According to the U.S Border Patrol in 2009 alone:

– Cocaine seized: 135,943 lbs

– Heroin seized: 2,015 lbs

– Marijuana seized: 4,330,475 lbs

– Methamphetamine seized: 6,135 lbs

Reports are that the DEA and Border Control captures 80 – 90% of all drugs coming into the U.S. at the Ports of Entry.  (Drug smuggling, and the endless battle to stop it)

The problem with that statistic is that except for the drugs captured at ports, there is no way to know how much crosses the unprotected border.  And it should limit the scourge of human trafficking destroying the lives of Latino women and children.

More dead in a year than the entire Vietnam war

In reality, no one knows how much is coming across the unsecured border. No one knows how much is missed at the ports of entry.  All we do know is that enough heroin and fentanyl is coming into this country to kill 70,000 Americans a year.  That’s more people than were killed during the 15 years of the Vietnam War.  More people than die every year in traffic accidents. Drugs are the leading cause of death for young people in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Where ever there is a border barrier 100% of drugs and contraband and human trafficking will be stopped.  American lives are saved.

Heroin and Fentanyl: a deadly menace

Ninety percent of the heroin and 100% of the Fentanyl illegally entering America crosses the Southern border. Stopping tens of thousands of deaths a year demands we treat securing the border as a national emergency. No reasonable person can possibly conclude barriers in areas identified by the border patrol themselves are not a justifiable and effective way of stopping drug and human smuggling in that area.

The evidence is Prima facie. In Yuma Arizona, and outside of San Diego barriers cut crossings by 90%. The Democrat opposition is openly partisan and political. The Presidents response has been to call a National Emergency at the border and reallocate funds.

Democrats are delusional about the border

Democrats are howling. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are apoplectic. The kabuki theatre from the Democrat party is revealed in the myriad of poison pills they put into the paltry barrier funding provisions they did include.

President Trump is well within his rights to both declare the national emergency and reallocate the funding. He has both constitutional authority as Commander in Chief and statutory authority from the Congress in the Emergency Declarations act.

The dirty little secret is that the President can access $3 billion in funding without the emergency declaration. Cartel interdiction funding and asset seizures provide the bulk of the $3 billion.

That’s on top of the $1.3 billion from Congress in the latest legislation, with all its restrictions. And the $1.6 billion already in the pipeline and currently building 110 miles of border wall.

The emergency declaration only relates to the $3.5 billion in Military Construction funds that the President is accessing. The other $5 billion dollars is unassailable by the courts.

Trump has undisputed authority

Precedent is on the side of the President. If protecting our nation’s borders is not within the foreign policy purview of the President, then what is? If he had used that money to build a border barrier at a military installation in Afghanistan there would have been no opposition.

Trillions are spent on wars abroad, but billions can’t be spent to protect the border at home. Border barriers can be built by US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and Syria, but not in the homeland. On our own border.

To protect our America, Obama declared a national emergency on twelve occasions:

• Oct. 23, 2009: Declaration of a National Emergency With Respect to the 2009 H1N1 Influenza Pandemic, was never terminated or continued;
• April 12, 2010 (still in effect): Blocking Property of Certain Persons Contributing to the Conflict in Somalia, continued in 2018;
• Feb. 25, 2011 (still in effect): Blocking Property and Prohibiting Certain Transactions Related to Libya, continued in February 2018;
• July 24, 2011 (still in effect): Blocking Property of Transnational Criminal Organizations, continued in July 2018;
• May 16, 2012 (still in effect): Blocking Property of Persons Threatening the Peace, Security, or Stability of Yemen, continued in May 2012;
• June 25, 2012: Blocking Property of the Government of the Russian Federation Relating to the Disposition of Highly Enriched Uranium Extracted from Nuclear Weapons, revoked in 2015;

As it turns out, back in 2011 then-President Barack Obama issued an executive order “blocking property of transnational criminal organizations.”  According to Law & Order Obama then cited his authority as granted through the Constitution to invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, 50 U.S.C. 1701, and the National Emergencies Act, 50 U.S.C. 1601.

President Trump is using the International Emergency Economic Powers and National Emergency Act to support declaring a national emergency.  That executive order targeted a number of criminal organizations, including the Mexican Los Zetas cartel, an ally of the MS-13 gang President Trump regularly cites as a danger to Americans.

Moreover, Congress specifically grants the President the authority to enact an Emergency Declaration. It is an authority used 39 times since its inception, and 30 of those States of Emergencies are still in effect. Including the July 2011 act by Barack Obama against the drug cartels.

President Trump is relying on Obama’s Emergency Declaration to support his actions.

Stephen Miller makes an eloquent case

White House Senior advisor Stephen Miller eloquently outlined the President’s position and authority in a contentious appearance on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. He powerfully made the point that if America can fight wars abroad then we must protect our citizens at home.

Miller specifically laid out the constitutional authority of the President. He powerfully emphasized the statutory authority granted by the Congress for the Presents actions. They are unassailable.

When critics argue the power of the purse, Miller points out the reality of operating under Congressional authority. He emphasized the Presidents determination to follow through swiftly.

Miller expects that over 200 additional miles of wall will be built by the summer of 2020. He points out that whatever the challenges are in court, that President Trump will ultimately prevail in the Supreme Court.

Stephen Miller pointed out a crucial fact. 70,000 dead Americans a year is not fake news.  That’s 6,000 Americans dead every month. One thousand four hundred Americans a week. Two hundred dead Americans every day. Placing this in perspective, America lost 3,000 people on 911. Then America went to war.

Leading to the question, how is the current tragedy of dead Americans, not an emergency?

That doesn’t even begin to discuss sex trafficking or human smuggling. Actions that take place in the remotest areas of the border, not through ports of entry.

Rush Limbaugh exposes the Democrats

Rush Limbaugh makes the point on Fox News Sunday that Democrats just want to destroy Donald Trump, and have an institutional bias for open borders. Democrats don’t care about the problem. The Democrats don’t want to solve the problem. Democrats are the problem.

Maybe they should have actually worked with the President and given him a fair number in the apropriation for the barriers for border security. Maybe they could stop playing politics with Americans who die from drugs as well as Latino victims of sex and human trafficking. But they didn’t, and they won’t.

The President had to act to get results

To save lives. Restore order at the border. Wage war on the drug cartels. All these things demand that the President must take action.   Working within his authority the President is securing the funds to secure our borders.

The continual assault on our citizenry from an unchecked drug cartel working feverishly to kill Americans must be stopped. The need for comprehensive immigration reform, overhaul of our amnesty laws, and the creation of a sane legal immigration system can only occur once we regain control of our border.

But the Democrats act like they are on the side of the drug cartels. The Democrats leave our border unsecured and leave us to the mercy of gangs like MS-13, of drug cartels, sex traffickers and human smugglers. They are all the same people. Their criminal enterprises overlap.

That doesn’t even begin to address the surge in central American immigrant caravans. Or the catch and release restrictions that make a mockery of anyone standing in line and trying to enter the United States legally.

President Trump will prevail because there is a national emergency on our border. And 70,000 dead American bodies a year are proof of it. Democrats should be ashamed of themselves.
