Climate ‘action’ but no fix for polluting Massey Tunnel mess

Even though B.C. sits at the kids’ table at the CO2-contributor banquet, we still must live in the world of NDP idealism. The latest noggin’-scratcher is the climate action plan.

These characters in power are marketing some kind of purified air agenda while just south of Vancouver there is a parking lot called the Massey Tunnel billowing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Where is the announcement and money for a new crossing?

If the Horgan government really cared about dirty air, they would take action on this perpetual idling-vehicle snarl-up. There is money for the unnecessary and overhyped Broadway subway project, so there should be funds for a polluting congestion point like the tunnel.

Premier John Horgan, Finance Minister Carole James and the man they answer to, Green party Leader Andrew Weaver, all live on southern Vancouver Island, so I guess the tunnel is a case of “out of sight, out of mind.” Hopefully, out of office soon too.

Huawei, SNC-Lavalin not the same

There is a huge difference between China’s interest in Huawei and SNC-Lavalin. China is using Huawei on multiple fronts, the biggest being Huawei’s technology to gain access to 5G technology. If Huawei is successful, it could infiltrate every level of government, business, individual, etc., worldwide.

China has never played by the international rule of law. We should all be aware and afraid of how far the tentacles of Chinese influence have reached in our society. Certainly not as far as SNC-Lavalin, I’m sure. That company just wants to make as much money as possible.

Too many people too

In regard to contraceptive control for problem deer and birds, such a program should also apply to humans to prevent the increasing global population and resulting increase in greenhouse-gas emissions, considering their negative effects on the environment.

Lots of anger

I see Canada’s top civil servant, Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick, says he’s worried that someone will be assassinated during the next political campaign, given the current tenor of public discussion.

I believe Wernick’s concerns are well-founded because we have a federal government that doesn’t view or treat all citizens equally, a flawed Charter of Rights that doesn’t permit true freedom of speech and a Supreme Court that doesn’t uphold the laws made by our elected representatives.

Until we have true freedom of speech, are considered equal in the eyes of the law and get to vote for the people who make the laws, there will always be a lot of very angry people living in this country.

Makes no sense

On the one hand, the government is throwing in an additional $30 million in taxes to fix the fentanyl crisis, bringing the total spent to $608 million since 2017. On the other hand, because a police dog didn’t apparently “sit” 100 per cent on the restricted ground, a judge threw out the charges against a drug mule moving more than 27,000 fentanyl pills because “his rights” were violated.

How in hell does that make an ounce of common sense? On top of finding the hidden pills in his van, we saw the video where he confessed. That is one reason why some judges are elected, not appointed for life, in the U.S.
