Letter to the editor: Scourge of meth, fentanyl reason to invest U.S. dollars to build border wall – Opinion – The Repository

Our society is crumbling beneath our feet. Not only socially, but economically as well.

Immigration is a big, controversial topic in the United States today, so I want to give my take on it. We need to stop illegal immigration and implement stronger laws to get immigrants who overstay their visas out. Not only are they taking up space, but they are also taking our money illegally.

The president is only asking $5.7 billion to build the wall. That is a fraction of what we would save. Let’s put it this way: If we were to spend $16 billion, it would save us that same amount in three years. So if that’s the case, we could earn the $5.7 billion back in just over a year, according to the Washington Examiner. Yet everyone, taxpayers, are complaining about the cost.

Just in Phoenix, on Jan, 31, officers seized nearly 650 pounds of meth and fentanyl, which is the leading drug in overdose case. More than 18,000 people died from a fentanyl overdose in 2016 alone, and the numbers are rising. This is a huge problem and it needs to be stopped immediately.

With all of these facts, the United States needs a wall. Without it, we are killing parents, brothers, sisters and loved ones. We are killing the future of our country — all because we don’t want to spend money to save it. Change needs to start today.

I want to live in a future where I don’t have to worry about my children dying from lethal drugs such as meth and fentanyl.

I want a better future, starting today.
