20 Feb Target deadly fentanyl dealers – Boston Herald
My son was the first person to be murdered by fentanyl in this state.
It was on Jan. 2, 2015, in Roxbury. He was my only child. I wasn’t even supposed to be able to get pregnant. Now part of my life is gone.
It feels as if he died just yesterday. Now not a day goes by that I don’t want to be with him. People say you learn to move on, but you don’t get over it. Ever.
We’re losing 2,000 kids a year to overdoses in Massachusetts and it just never seems to stop. And I can’t get answers from anybody about my son’s case.
My son probably didn’t know what he was taking. He had just got out of rehab and was with a friend. He collapsed and never woke up after taking the fentanyl. He was 32 and people robbed him instead of helping. They stepped right over him.
Why can someone pick up fentanyl for someone, be the runner, and not get charged? It’s no different than if they put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.
He didn’t know he got pure fentanyl. It hits so fast.
It’s just a big money grab.
Now there’s a million mothers and fathers out there dealing with the same sadness I’m coping with today.
We need to send a message that if anybody even runs to get a bag of fentanyl, they will be held accountable. “Stephen’s Law,” named after my son, needs to be passed. It hasn’t yet and it makes me feel as if nobody cares.
It’s a deadly, deadly drug. Kids are being exposed to fentanyl. People are dropping like flies. The fentanyl is coming in from China on cargo boats.
I’ve been at this for four years and anybody involved in the chain of fentanyl trafficking should be prosecuted. I saw what happen to that child in Lawrence and it made me sick.
This is the equivalent of a jumbo jet going down every day. If that jet was filled with the children of politicians, they would solve this crisis right away. Isn’t this a national emergency?
Debbie Deagle, 59, lives in Revere. She was a single parent who raised her son, who worked with computers, until his death. “Stephen’s Law,” a bill calling for murder charges for fentanyl dealers in fatal overdose cases, is named after her son. The bill has been filed again this year.
