30 Jan UK drugs warning: Heroin spiked fentanyl hits Brit streets in Wales
AN URGENT drug warning has been issued after a drug containing a deadly combination of heroin and the even stronger fentanyl has hit Brit streets.
Fentanyl, a drug 50 times more potent than heroin, is worryingly on the rise in Britain.
The drug, made in China, is usually bought on the dark web and has ravaged the US.
But now UK drug users are combining fentanyl with heroin, to create an even more lethal concoction.
Police officers in Swansea and Port Talbot have said a number of people have been hospitalised in recent weeks due to the drug.
South Wales Police Inspector Stuart Johnson revealed he is worried about the rise of fentanyl users.
He told Wales Online: “Class A drugs, by their very nature, are dangerous and unpredictable due to their varying potency and purity.
“However these recent disclosures to partner agencies and the increasing presence of fentanyl is extremely concerning.
“I would urge all drug users in the area to be cautious and to seek advice and support from local support services in order to try and protect themselves.”

A combination of the two drugs is believed to have caused a rise in overdose rates in the US..
The mixture of the two is more dangerous due to heroin users not having a tolerance for fentanyl.
Fentanyl has already been blamed for the deaths of rock legends Prince and Tom Petty.
LA media guru Mike Raia said fentanyl-laced heroin was being used at swanky Hollywood parties.
He added: “It has become the new ‘drug du jour’ among the rich and famous.
“Mixing in Fentanyl supposedly gives you a much faster acting and more euphoric high.
“But the downside is that it is extremely addictive – and you’re basically playing Russian roulette with your life every time you take a hit.”
